Windows Defender Service has disappeared (I suspect a virus)
Defender has apparently not run in the last two months. When I open the UI through the Control Panel I get the message: "A problem has caused this program's service to stop. To start the service, click the start now button or restart your computer."
When I press the button I get the message: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service. (Error Code: 0x80070424)" When I check in Services, the service does not appear to exist. I downloaded the Defender installer to try to reinstall it,
and got the message that Defender was already installed, which closed the installer without fixing the problem. What should I do now?
